Privacy Notice

The University of British Columbia (UBC) collects your personal information under the authority of section 26(c) of the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) for the purpose of creating your Ambassador Platform (TAP) account and enabling secure access to peer-to-peer engagement features. This includes connecting you with UBC student Ambassadors and providing information about UBC programs and opportunities. Personal information collected includes:

  • Name and email address (used for authentication and communication)
  • Country of residence (used for engagement context)
  • Optional details you choose to provide (e.g., program of interest, profile photo)
  • Engagement data: Chat transcripts and engagement metrics generated during your use of TAP. These records are used to support program oversight and maintain an audit trail for moderation purposes.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser type, and device metadata collected automatically for security and analytics. Cookies and pixel tags may be used for performance monitoring; marketing features are disabled in UBC’s configuration.

Cross-border storage: Your personal information will be transmitted to and stored by TAP on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in the United Kingdom. Vendor support staff may access data for maintenance or troubleshooting. Backups are maintained in UK-based facilities. Retention and deletion timelines will follow UBC’s records schedules once confirmed with the vendor.

Voluntary participation: Participation in TAP is voluntary and will not affect your application status at UBC. Personal information collected through TAP will not automatically form part of your official UBC student record unless explicitly disclosed for that purpose with appropriate notice or consent.
