The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) program prepares students for success in today’s fast-paced business world. In the first two years, students build a strong foundation in key areas like marketing, finance, operations, and human resources, while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. In the final two years, they choose a concentration that matches their interests and career goals, allowing them to explore specialized areas of business in more depth. These concentrations are designed to equip students to pursue professional designations, if desired, such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR), and Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA).

In their final year, students take part in a Capstone Experience that brings everything they’ve learned together. This unique course helps them reflect on their personal and professional growth, and prepares them to take on future challenges in their careers and communities. With these hands-on experiences, UBC Commerce students graduate with the confidence, skills, and global perspective to make a meaningful impact wherever they go.|The Faculty of Management is accommodated in the Engineering, Management, and Education building, a $68-million state-of-the-art facility for teaching and research that incorporates high-tech teaching tools, training resources, and meeting spaces.
It is a hub for future business leaders and entrepreneurs. It also supports interdisciplinary co-op programs, giving students hands-on experience across different fields.
Inside, there are modern classrooms, labs, faculty offices, and plenty of study spaces where students can work together or focus on their own.
The building is also designed with sustainability in mind. It features a green roof that helps manage rainwater, keeps the building energy-efficient, and even supports environmental research. Plus, it uses a geothermal energy system that heats and cools the building using groundwater from deep underground.

English-language requirements
English is the language of instruction at UBC. All prospective students must demonstrate English-language competency prior to admission. There are numerous ways to meet the English Language Admission Standard.
General admission requirements
IB Diploma Programme
- Completed IB Diploma, including at least three Higher Level courses.
IB Certificate Courses
- IB Certificate courses (Standard and Higher Level) may be used in an admissions average if you are graduating from a recognized high school curriculum that can be used as your basis of admission.
- IB Math Applications and Interpretations SL, or IB Math Studies, do not satisfy the math requirement for admission to UBC’s science-based programs, the Faculty of Management, the UBC Sauder School of Business, or the Vancouver School of Economics.
Degree-specific requirements: Commerce
- IB Math Analysis and Approaches SL or HL, or IB Math Applications and Interpretations HL. (IB Math Applications and Interpretations SL, or IB Math Studies, are not acceptable.)
